We are starting to see PCIe Gen 4 NVMe drives in the datacenter that are theoretically twice as fast as Gen 3 devices. StorageReview labs tested a SK hynix Gen 4 NVMe drive to see how well it performs. This drive is quite remarkable as not only is it extremely fast but it doesn’t extract the premium you would expect to pay for next-gen technology, in fact it is priced competitive with last-gen NVMe drives.
